A superb book. The way that the character has to combat her PTSD really raises the book, and it shows the research that has been done into the subject. It remains a great crime book, but with an added dimension.

The character development and storylines are fascinating and engrossing. While parts of the book are stressful, disturbing or horrifying reading, the focus is more on character reactions and interactions, and on the solving of the crime. I found this book nerve-wracking, yet satisfying and I'm looking forward to the third in the series.

In the Name Of by Candace Irving has just about everything working for it. There is action, mystery, suspense, a little romance and a very concise look into what it can mean to someone battling with PTSD. It is very evident that she has done extensive research to develop characters struggling to exist with this debilitating condition, regardless of the traumatic event(s) that caused it. You get a real feel for the anguish that Kate, Arash, Seth and Lily are living with. The way Candace Irving describes the Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)that was developed by Dr. Resick to help those suffering from PTSD and how Kate is beginning to get some relief and new coping skills via CPT is very interesting.The descriptions of the horrible honor killings followed by some cultures is very graphic, but clearly creates the visualizations the author wants you to have. Those alone build up the sympathy for the victims and the rationale why they must by stopped. The suspense in solving the killings makes you keep reading just to find out what happens next.I also enjoyed the interactions that tied Kate and Regan Chase together. Hopefully there will be much more of the two of them together in future books.Candace Irving has truly surpassed herself with this story. It is highly recommended and well worth the read. You will definitely enjoy In the Name Of.

This series is very complicated and about a serious current subject in America. It is very authentic and involved.It moves along well--and certainly gets your interest and future thinking.The K-9 angle is marvelous and I wish was a bit more developed.

A marvellous thriller. Our heroine is desperately fighting her way through the PTSD caused by her time in the Army, helped by her wonderful dog. This last case she worked as a detective in her hometown only seemed to make matters worse. She's unsure about being fit enough to carry on. Hopefully, the town can go back to its normally quiet, peaceful ways.Will the murders she must solve now be the kill or cure she needs?The characters in this story are strong and multi layered. The canine hero has so much love to give.This is the second book in the series that I've read, and I will definitely be reading the next.I loved it.

My 2nd C. Irving book and I couldn't put it down. After reading Kate's first case, I had to continue with book 2. I love Kate's love interest and I hope this continues.

My biggest disappointment is that there are only 3 books in this series. I love Kate and you feel all her struggles to heal from the hell she experienced in Afghanistan. Her amazing dog, Ruger, and all the other characters are believable. Very well written.

It took a while to get into the story but once I did could not put it down. Very riveting good plot rather gory but again good story

This is a great page-turner. I read it because (believe it or not) there's a German Shepherd Dog in it and I'm , well, a big fan of GSDs. Boy, am I hooked on this author - after finishing the first novel I immediately bought this second book in the Hidden Valor series & the books in her Deception Point series. The protagonist is a strong, capable woman in the mold of Sue Grafton's Kinsey but with a troubled background that makes for a compelling plot of it's own behind the main action. A fair number of mysteries/thrillers have insights into the police world, but I have never read anything with the military as the background of the protagonist & many of the characters. I know nothing about the military, so that, too added a fascinating depth to the novel. Two thumbs up!

I started with the free teaser of book 1, loved it so much I had to buy the book to read the entire story. I finished it this week and immediately purchased book 2 and I love it! smart, fast-paced, interesting back stories and characters I wanted the past's information and the tie-ins to the present I was thrilled as things unfolded. I closed the book only because work and life intruded, but this one I will finish tonight. I can't wait for a book 3, if the author is willing. This was good enough to point me to the other books by this author.Happy Readiing!

I'm so glad I stumbled across this author and her books. This book is full of well-developed characters who have heart. The story is very fresh and intriguing. I am so looking forward to reading her next book.

Kate is a great character who is strong an complex. Lots of suspense as she works her cases and deals with PTSD. This author really seems to have a good understanding of this and even the hard work to overcome and work through it.. All while she's investigating crime scenes and working her cases and dealing with triggers. Loved it!

This is another faced paced and intriguing investigation by Kate and the team. The body of a woman is found in a field, the condition of the body brings back unwanted memories, for Kate, of similar cases in her military service namely honour killings. Another body is found in the same condition, so if these are not honour killings, what are the implications of a serial killer using this type of MO? The investigation has many twists and turns, false leads and few suspects. A lead finally comes in, but why does it lead back to Afghanistan and the Iranian border and will Kate be able to put the pieces of the puzzle together, in time?I am really enjoying this series and looking forward to reading the next one.
