I eagerly awaited this book's arrival as I'm really loving this series and it didn't disappoint.This is another intriguing mystery for Kate and her colleagues to solve. When a Therapist counselling veterans is murdered and explosives are found in his house, Kate and the team must figure out where they come from and are they connected to another soldier's murder.The investigation has many twists and turns and becomes complicated very quickly.You won't want to put this book down, I couldn't.It was once again great to meet up with characters from Candace's other books.I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series, once published.

BLOOD ON THE WIRE (Hidden Valor K-9 Mysteries Book #5) by Candace Irving is another outstanding action packed and thrilling addition to this series. I enjoyed every book in the entire series and Kate and Ruger�s journey, but I believe you could read this book as a standalone and still love it due to the strategically placed background information you may have questions about.Special State Investigator Kate Holland and her K-9 Ruger are called to investigate the stabbing death of one of the Little Rock VA�s psychologists. When she gets to the scene, she realizes she met this doctor arguing with Kate�s own doctor just a few days earlier. As Kate and the local detective search the doctor�s home, they discover two safes. One has a cache of military grade C-4 and the other has a notebook filled with writing in code.As Kate investigates the murder, she discovers the doctor was looking into a crime from two years ago in Afghanistan. There are suspects that are almost too convenient and many tangled stories of truth and lies. As the body count increases, Kate realizes someone is trying to get rid of all ties to the real killer and crimes of the past.I love this series! I look forward to reading not only an intricately plotted suspense/mystery, but an intimate story of a vet�s healing journey through PTSD and a terrible wartime incident all while she navigates her current job, her work and personal connection to her dog, and finally her learned ability to open up in her personal relationships. The intricate plot and twists in this book left me continually guessing until the very end.I highly recommend this suspenseful police procedural/K-9 mystery! This is a well written, engrossing series and I cannot wait for more.

This is one hell of a thriller. Kate and Ruger get involved in all sorts of shenanigans is this story that is for sure. I loved it right from the first word to the last, I was fully engrossed in it.This author can�t half just write cracking tales. I cannot wait for the next one in the series. Highly recommended.

The fifth book in the Kate Holland Hidden Valor series by Candice Irving is a masterpiece of suspense, thrills, and mystery! Blood on the Wire is a complex web of thrills and chills beginning on page one, with an increasing chill factor as you continue to read. As in previous books, the search for the villain(s) is a non-stop roller coaster trip through numerous false clues and dead ends, finally arriving at a surprise ending. AND wow! What an ending! Be prepared to have your mind blown when the actual bad guy is revealed!Candace Irving has outdone herself with Blood on the Wire! Kate Holland and her lover, Arash, grow through their continued intimacy issues caused by Kate's PTSD and body image issues. Candace introduces new characters as old friends return to play a significant role in Kate's investigations for the State police. I couldn't help but fall in love with the myriad of deep personalities of Candace's creations. Her brilliant mind and imagination shine throughout the entire novel!I also appreciate Candace Irving's empathetic approach to the plight of many women veterans. In Blood on the Wire, Candace does not shy away from addressing the challenging consequences of soldier-on-soldier rape, PTSD, and the suicide rate of women veterans. The subplot involving the criminal activities triggered by the US chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan was intriguing and informative.Blood on the Wire is another outstanding example of Candace Irving's creative talent. I look forward to many more Kate Holland mysteries, especially if they include more partnerships with her other relatable characters, like Reagan Chase .

This book kept me reading almost non-stop. I hated to put it down and finished it in 2 days. Kate is experiencing something she's never had to experience before. The man she loves is on a mission and she can't contact him. He's in terrible trouble and that's all she knows. And she still has to focus on the job at hand. This is a favorite series. Strong characters, especially Kate and Ruger. He's not just a dog in a story - he's a major character, as much as Kate. I really love the bond between the two of them. Neither one would be where they are now, if not for the other. Kate saved Ruger from a bullet and Ruger protected and kept Kate going when she was in serious trouble. I look forward to reading every book in this series. I received this book as an ARC and all remarks are my own.

It wasn�t a book I couldn�t put down, but it was a book i really enjoyed reading, good characters, good storyline and a great Author of a well written book.

Harsh reality! Wonderful Ruger, Arash, Lou and Seth. Love the connections she makes with other agents, deputies, and military personnel. And excellent deductive reasoning.

This series never disappoints. I look forward to reading more books in all her series. I have recommended these books to several friends.

This is an excellent read. I was engrossed from start to finish, with an ending I have to say I did not expect at all. I think it�s even better with the Armed Forces connections as well. I loved it. Cannot wait for the next one. Highly recommended.

Before you start reading this book, cancel any plans you might have for the day and start reading early. I started at 7:30 a.m. and I read straight through, only stopping to make an occasional cup of coffee and to let the pups out. There's a lot going on, starting with Katie's first case for the governor of Arkansas, following the brutal murder of a young Black man. The governor is concerned that this might be a hate crime, and the media coverage could reflect badly on him. The investigation should be pretty straightforward. They know who he was, because he had his driver's license and VA card on him when he was found. Until they can't pull up anything on him; the guy didn't exist. Not much is adding up. Katie and Seth are working together and the case takes them to some ugly and horrifying places run by some very unscrupulous, disgusting people. The saving grace for Katie is Arash. She's three sessions away from completing her therapy. She's come so far and she's finally ready to start a life with Arash; no secrets or fears. I gotta admit I no longer enjoy romance novels. So, when I'm reading about a murder investigation I don't want heaving bosoms and snarky flirting that take center stage while the murder investigation is just a background distraction. Here, Katie and Arash have a mature, loving relationship. It flows so well with the story that I'd miss it if it wasn't there. And then there's Ruger. What can I say - I love that dog. He's the goofiest, smartest, most loyal and fun-loving dog around until he goes to work. Then he's your worst enemy. He's exactly what the author says he is, a fierce, steadfast partner to Katie and they both know it. And Katie would protect Ruger with her life. That comes across loud and clear. I love a good book that involves a dog who is just as important to the story as the human is. Katie and Ruger lead the pack. I've read all the books in this series. I will continue to read them until the author stops writing them. I hope that's not for a long, long time. And I thank the author for allowing me to review this book in advance.

I am not sure which I enjoyed more. The action between the characters or the actual story being told.Involving both military and local authorities, this book has all the elements of intrigue and dirtiness that you would expect of a great write.Tying together so many elements of our main character's life makes this book even more a must read. Hoping that the next one is just as good (which I am sure it will be).

There is only one word to describe the latest book, Last Dog Out, by Candace Irving in the Kate and Ruger series. That is WOW! From the very first paragraph you are caught up in a wild and exciting pursuit with Kate and Ruger trying to apprehend a suspect. The action, intrigue, excitement and suspense just continues to build. There is so much going on in this book, it is hard to stop reading.If you have read the previous books in this series, you will learn the answers to quite a few questions about Kate�s and Ruger�s background in addition to other people in her past. You definitely feel the extremely close bond between Kate and Ruger and learn why it is still growing. No spoilers here. You need to experience this yourself. Of course there is a bit of romance thrown in as well. And there are some very difficult scenes to read, especially when it comes to those suffering from PTSD. Her attention to details and understanding are excellent.Candace just keeps improving this series with each new story. I am totally captivated and look forward to the next adventure.

I don�t leave reviews very often but this series and this book 100 percent deserve it! The characters are so vivid and realistic that reading these books are like watching an incredible action movie but way better! Reading about Kate�s journey with PTSD, her incredible pup Ruger and her family of friends has been amazing! Now� where is book 5???

Book 4 is just as good as the previous books in the series. I love Irving�s depiction of Ruger and the other dogs in this volume. Kate�s continuing work at recovery from PTSD and her empathy for other suffering similar ills is great character development. I look forward to the fifth story.
